Not many men have the confidence to pull off polka dots. It’s a bold fashion statement that takes a truly talented, and innovative man to pull off. The blues guitarist/blues legend just so happens to be one of those men.
Buddy Guy’s signature polka dot guitar stems back to a promise made to his mother in his pre-legend days. While trying to convince her to let him move to Chicago to pursue music, Buddy lied and said he had a good job waiting for him. In fact, he told her, he would be so successful and rich he would buy her a polka dot Cadillac. Sadly, his mother didn’t live long enough to get that Cadillac. But, Buddy had Fender make a polka dot guitar for him, as a tribute to that promise he made to his mother.
That promise paid off for Buddy Guy. He was named 25th in Rolling Stone’s list of 100 Greatest Guitarists, and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Don’t miss your chance to see the polka dotted legend live this summer at the Cape Cod Melody Tent. Great seats still available!
