Boz at the top of his game

    Event Date: 07/01/2010

Review: I renewed my appreciation for the Music Circus when I attended Boz Scaggs' recent show. I've seen him often through the years -- from the Orpheum to his own Slim's club in San Francisco -- but I can't recall him playing better. He accented hits from his best-selling R&B album, "Silk Degrees'' (can it really be 34 years since that was released?), but he still swept folks up with that album's "Lowdown'' and "Lido Shuffle,'' which climaxed the show in grand, singalong fashion. Boz was cool and unflappable throughout. His band was beyond fabulous and so was his backup singer, Miss Monet, who shot the show up another notch with an electrifying lead vocal on John Hiatt's "Let's Give Them Something to Talk About.'' I'd pay to see her do her own show.

It was another classy night at the Music Circus. Give thanks that it has persevered all these years. The South Shore needs a place like this, and so does all of Boston. We're lucky to have it around.
