B.B. King may be in his 80s now, but his music is as timeless as ever. King rocked the Tent on July 10 and according to the Cape Cod Times review, he’s still pitch perfect in every way.
When a musician has been playing the blues for more than 60 years as B.B. King has, the question is not so much “Has he done it?” but “Can he still do it?”
Melissa Etheridge is no stranger to the Cape Cod Melody Tent. But this year, instead of just her and her guitar, Ms. Etheridge brought along a slue of seasoned rockers. Check out what the Cape Cod Times had to say about Friday’s show:
It was hot in every sense of the word: the free sauna courtesy of Mother Nature; the wail of dueling guitars; the new rock star musicians and, most of all, the pure — at points, unearthly — Etheridge, whose voice and guitar-playing seem to emanate from her as naturally as breathing.

In 1996 the band Waterloo got permission from the original members of ABBA to form an official, touring group dedicated solely to the Swedish band’s music. Touring ever since, Waterloo and their ABBA The Music show stopped by the Melody Tent on July 8, much to the delight of Dancing Queens and Mamma Mia’s everywhere.
Anybody who doubted the universal love for ABBA’s music only had to look and listen. In the back rows, dancers circled the tent throughout the entire performance. It was unnerving to see the same words emerging simultaneously from the mouths of a 5-year old boy, a 12-year old girl, a suave guy in his 20s, a mother in her early 40s, and a man and wife, both in their 80s. … Many were still dancing and singing and raving about the concert as they left after the second encore.

“I’m delighted to be headed to Hyannis, too, because I love the Melody Tent. I love the funkiness of it and the unique vibe it has because it’s in the round. You have the audience all around you so there’s no feeling of emptiness anywhere. And, they’re is so close that it creates this amazing circle of energy. The Melody Tent is definitely my favorite place to perform.”
Boz Scaggs helped the audience get ready for the 4th of July in style at the Melody Tent on Saturday. Making himself a household name in the 1960s, Boz proved he still has what it takes to keep an audience on its feet and singing along!
For most of last night’s show, Scaggs and his band worked the hit train, opening with “Jo Jo,” bathed in purple mood lighting for “Harbor Lights,” flirting with disco on “Lowdown” and “Miss Sun,” and generating a big sing-along for the gambling man “Lido.”
Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi have each fronted their own bands for performances at the Melody Tent time and time again, but this year they treated the sold out crowd to a whole new level of entertainment – The Derek Trucks AND Susan Tedeschi Band.
The husband and wife duo are touring this summer as one band and their musical talents certainly suit each other. But don’t take our word for it, see what the Cape Cod Times had to say about the July 2 show.
“Just when it seemed the song couldn’t go any further and was destined to unravel into a fitting melodic denouement, Trucks propelled it to another level with a guitar solo that alternately growled out deep notes, then slid up the scale with power and emotion. The band followed close behind like a big train gaining downhill momentum.”
Mary Chapin Carpenter kicked off the 4th of July weekend this year at the Cape Cod Melody Tent. Check out what the Cape Cod Times had to say about her first performance at the Tent in 3 years.
“Everybody was listening hard to the words of her songs, which really were more like travelogues through her life and times. They were listening, in part, because they could clearly hear her precisely chosen words in the balanced mix of instruments and voices and, in part, because she sang about such interesting topics.”
